About Us

Ummeed Swasth Bhawishya (USB) Foundation, established under the aegis of Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant Institute of Studies in Rural Development (PISRD) is a not-for-profit organization registered as Society under Societies Registration Act of 1860 Article 21. It is dedicated to children and adults suffering from neurological disorders such as Cerebral Palsy.

Cerebral Palsy, the most common cause of physical disability in children and young people is a neurological disorder that affects body movement and muscle coordination. This means children suffering from this grave condition find it difficult to eat, walk, sleep, and do anything on their own. The estimated incidence for cerebral palsy is around 3/1000 live in India. Based on the statistics and various on-field interactions with affected children and their parents, we acknowledge that there is lack of information about possible treatment options and benefits from various government schemes. USB Foundation was hence setup in 2017 with a purview to change societal attitudes about these special children, devise inclusive approaches and to promote integration.

Challenges and Approach

Cerebral palsy is a lifelong disability, but there are various proven interventions and approaches to reduce its impact on an individual’s life. Interventions such as parental counseling, physiotherapy, special education etc. are important elements needed to improve the health condition of the affected individual, thereby boosting his/her motivation in addition to supporting the families. Considering lack of information as a major challenge, in our early years we aim to direct the efforts of such interventions by reaching out to parents who are either uninformed or cannot afford the treatment. Aside of these interventions, it is incredibly important for the children with certain disabilities to feel accepted within the society. The social stigma associated with conditions such as Cerebral Palsy restrain them from seeking the right treatment. We would like to focus on providing strategically crafted opportunities to these children by involving them in various activities that highlight their abilities, along with other children.

The stark economic disparities between those who can afford treatment and those who cannot are still prevalent in India. It is a sad truth that so many children with special needs need a strong upliftment in the society. For such children, we aim to provide them with the support for the required medical interventions, and for the adults we also aim to provide skill development, vocational training, and occupational therapy to empower them to be independent.
